Narrative

The Story of Keong Emas

Once upon a time, in an empire named Daha, East Java, there was a wise king named Kertanegara. He had two beautiful female children named Galuh Ajeng and Candra Kirana. Candra Kirana had a fiancé named Raden Inu Kertapati, the prince of Kahuripan Empire.
Raden Inu Kertapati was a good and handsome young man. Many beautiful women had fallen in love with him including Galuh Ajeng.  Galuh Ajeng loved Raden Inu Kertapati so much. Unfortunately,  Candra Kirana had engaged with Raden Inu Kertapati. Later, an envious feeling emerged in the heart of Galuh Ajeng, and she wanted to take Raden Inu Kertapati away  from Candra Kirana.
Her envious feeling grew greater day by day, and Galuh Ajeng planned to do something bad to Candra Kirana. Finally, she met a sorcerer.
“I know you are a miraculous sorcerer,  could you please help me.  I will pay you money as much as you want,”  asked Galuh to the sorcerer.
“What do you want me to do, Princess Galuh?”  Asked the sorcerer.
“Please, Curse Candra Kirana, ”  asked Galuh.
The sorcerer did what Galuh asked for her to do. Not only asking the sorcerer to curse Candra Kirana, but also Galuh Ajeng had libeled Candra Kirana for something that she did not do and made her being expelled from the empire.
What a pity Candra Kirana. While she was walking fringing  the edge of the sea, the sorcerer magicked her to be a gold snail and throw her away  to the sea. There was only one way to make her free from the magic which was if she could meet with her fiancé.
One day, a grandmother who was catching fish with fish-net in the sea found a gold snail hooked by her fish-net. That gold snail was brought to her house and was put in a water jar.
In the next morning, the grandmother was back to the sea for catching  fish, but no fish was hooked with her fish-net. She had tried many times but there was no result. With a disappointed feeling, she finally came home. In her house, she saw a lot of delicious food served on the table.
“Oh my God, am I dreaming?  Who had cooked all the food and brought it to my house?”  asked her surprised.
Because she was so hungry, the grandmother ate all the food on the table.
The next day, the grandmother did the same activity of catching fish in the sea. When she returned to her house, the same thing happened to her. She was confused and wanted to find out who was the one who was so kindly serving her with a lot of delicious food.
So, the next morning, she silently pepping from the back of her house and found out that the gold snail was changed to be a very beautiful woman. That woman was cooking a lot of delicious food when the grandmother came to her and asked who the woman was.
“Y ou beautiful girl, who are you?”  asked the grandmother.
“My name is Candra Kirana. I am the princess of Daha Empire. Because of the envious feeling of my sister, I was cursed to be a gold snail,”  answered Kirana  then she was back to be a gold snail.
In the other place, Raden Inu Kertapati who lose his lovely  fiancée looked so worried. He longed for his fiancée so much. However, without being known, Raden Inu went out from the empire incognito to look for his fiancée and pretended to be a common person.
The sorcerer knew the act of Raden Inu and she changed herself to be a crow which was going to put Raden Inu in danger. Raden Inu was so surprised knowing that a crow could just speak and knew his aim. He thought that it was a miraculous bird. Raden Inu was shown a wrong way by the crow. And in middle of his way , he met an old man who starved.
“Excuse me, Sir. Can I have your food just for a little in order to sprag my hunger,”  asked the old man.
“I think I still have some, ”   replied Raden Inu while taking out of his food, then gave it to the old man.
“This is the rest that I have, Sir. You may  take it all. Hopefully, it is enough for you,”  said Raden Inu.
“Thank you, Sir,”   said the old man while eating all the food given.
In fact, that old man was someone who was miraculous and kindhearted. He knew that the crow which was following Raden Inu was the incarnation of a bad sorcerer. Finally , he swung his battered cane to the crow and suddenly  it turned to be fog.
The miraculous man also knew that Raden Inu was looking for Candra Kirana. Then, he gave Raden Inu clue to go to a village named Dadapan where Candra Kirana was. Raden Inu went to Dadapan Village.
After a few days, going  through a very  long way, eventually she arrived at Dadapan Village and he was run out of food.
At that time, he saw an old house. He wished that he could get a gulp of water. What a surprise that he saw from a window a beautiful woman that he knew was cooking food at the same time the curse of Candra Kirana went out. A  feeling of happiness was surrounding both of them. Then, Candra Kirana introduced Raden Inu to the grandmother who had helped Candra Kirana.
Thank you for helping and protecting my  fiancée. Actually , I was the prince of Kahuripan Empire and I was pretending  to be a common person to look for my  fiancée that was lost. That is why now I m going  to take you and Candra Kirana to the empire,  said Raden Inu.
They all went to Kahuripan Empire, Candra Kirana told about all the bad things done by Galuh Ajeng to the majesty, Kertamarta. The majesty Kertamarta was so.
